I don't want to go to sleep yet

Akaraka was so much fun! I have never seen school spirit like this before. Everyone knew all the cheers and dances to their cheers. And I got to see a lot of celebrities such as Gummy, Jewelry, Girls Generation, VOS!!!, and BIG BANG! Yay~~Since I can't afford to go to an actual concert, Akaraka was good enough for me. It was really fun even though my friend and I bought nasty sugar water rice cakes, organizations being super territorial, and having to be super close to random people. Haha. I took a lot of pictures and videos and uploaded them up on my cyworld. I would upload on facebook, but I don't like facebook.
Anyway from now on, my weekends are super busy. *cries* This weekend, I will be going to a workshop at my church to help prepare for Culture. Next weekend is Culture at Seoul Land. The weekend after that is my trip to Jeju Island. And the weekend after, I have some reversal culture shock workshop to attend, and then it's finals. The semester is almost over. I'm kind of sad that it's almost over. I really am enjoying it here. I want to go back to the States to just visit everyone, but I want to work and live in Korea. My cousin's wife owns an English academy for elementary school students, and she said she will give me a job if I come back to Korea after I graduate which is nice. But if I want to teach English, I'd rather teach college students. I don't know. I don't mind elementary school students though if they listen to me. *sigh* I'm still thinking about it.
I've been missing Texas a lot more than usual lately. I really miss my mom and brothers. I wish they could come here in the summer.

MAJOR UPDATE

I finally have some time to update my blog. I've been super busy with school, church, work, socializing, etc. I can't believe it's already May. I noticed that I never updated in April...my bad.
Well, on April 11-14, CIEE went to Japan. We went to Osaka, Kyoto and Nara. It was really fun despite communication problems. I have posted pictures of Japan on facebook if you haven't noticed them already. Japan is extremely expensive, and I've decided to go back there once I make enough money. However, I'm not too crazy about Japanese food. I'm not into raw fish and seafood, so I'll probably be eating a lot of udon and shabu shabu the next time I go there.
What else happened. Before Japan I met up with my friend who was in Dallas last year. He had promised to introduce me to his friends before he entered the army, so I met him and his friends. We stayed out till like 4 AM walking around Chunggyechun Stream (청계천), the one that President Lee Myung Bak made. It is so pretty.

Anyway, I've learned a lot of Korean from them and they actually force me to use Korean. ^^ I'm very thankful for that since I seem to only speak English with my other friends, even if they're Korean.
So after I came back from Japan, I met up with them again. We went to Kyoungbok Palace. The museum was entertaining. I enjoyed it, and it was fun listening to my friends try to explain to me what everything was in Konglish.
What else has happened?
My cousin took me to my grandparents' grave in the mountain. My name is engraved on the back of the tombstone. My cousin wasn't joking about it. He said every time he came to their grave and would see my brothers' and my name on the back, and wonder who we are. He also thought it was amazing that he had relatives somewhere else in the world that he hasn't met. I learned a lot more about my family that day. My great grandfather was part of the independence movement, and he died somewhere in China. Nobody knows when or where. My grandfather never really knew him. My great grandmother knew Kim Ku. Kim Ku was one of the leaders of the independence movement, and he's going to be on the new 100,000 won bill. He's one of the greatest figures in Korean history. I thought that was pretty cool. My grandparents were both doctors, however, my grandpa died pretty young...around the same age that my dad died? I'm not sure. I also found out that my dad was lazy when he was young and that he had a hard time when he was living in the States. I had no idea. I thought my dad was the hardest working person ever. Never lazy. I really couldn't believe it when I heard that. I really want to know more about my dad and his family now. I also want to know about my mom's side of the family also. I realized how much I don't know about my family and it's history. I also found out that I probably have some relatives in North Korea.
Then midterms happened. I did a lot better than I thought I did on my midterms. I'm really pleased with my scores, and I hope I do better on the finals. =)
Last week, my friend and I went to a DVD room. They're intended for couples to watch movies in a room. The room was really pink and had hearts everywhere. My friend said that it was a really nice DVD room, and that that's the best one she's been to so far. We watched 아는 여자 (A Girl I Know). It was really funny.

That's what was on the wall of the room. LOL
Anyway, these days I've been really busy. I'm helping out with a TOEFL Study group, and it's early in the mornings. M-F 7:40 AM-8:50 AM. I'm just helping them out with the speaking and writing parts. I am also helping my cousin's wife at her English Academy for elementary school students, because she needed an native speaker to teach English. The kids are really cute, but I was exhausted by the end of the day. I'm also tutoring another one of my friends that went to Dallas last year also.
Tonight, I met up with the same friend that I went to the DVD room with and we tried chocolate pizza. Oh and on the way to the restaurant, we saw Solbi. She comes out on the TV show "We Got Married" (우리 결혼했어요), and is part of the singing group, Typhoon. I've never heard of them or anything. I've only seen her on TV. She's the first celebrity that I've seen in Korea. I'm sorry I couldn't get a picture of her. But she was getting interviewed and my friend and I might come out on TV also haha j/k. Anyway, the chocolate pizza was really sweet. It was goooooood, but too sweet. I'll post pictures of it next time. I haven't uploaded them onto my computer yet.
Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that I went to Daejeon finally last weekend (Children's Day Holiday). I went there with only the clothes I was wearing that day and whatever was in my purse. Why wasn't I prepared to go? My cousin never informed me ahead of time, so I was already at my uncle's house (dad's side) when they called me to say that they were going to Daejeon that day. It takes an hour for me to get to my uncle's from Sinchon, so I was like great! I can't go back home to get my things, since they're going to pick me up here. -_- I felt bad having to leave my uncle's to go to Daejeon all of a sudden, but I had to go so I could see my mom's side of the family and my grandma. My grandma is living at a nursing home. She's a lot older and sicker than I thought. Two years ago, she was so healthy and strong. It kind of hurt to see her in the state that she's in. She can't get up on her own anymore. I wish I could go see her more often. I bet she's lonely, and I wish that my mom would be able to come to Korea to take care of her before anything else happens. I know that my mom wants to see her and take care of her. ='(
I'm hoping that I can go to Daejeon again with a friend in 2 weeks.
Next week is Akaraka, a festival at Yonsei. Big Bang and Girl's Generation are coming to perform. I'm really excited about that =D
Anyway, I'm tired. Time is really going by too fast.

Sorry

Sorry for the lack of updates.
I've been lazy about updating...
-_-
I have one more midterm tomorrow, and as soon as that is over and when I have some time to actually write, I will!

Update.

So I am sick again kind of. First, my throat was sore. Then I had a runny nose. And now I'm just coughing. Hopefully, it'll be GONE soon! It got cold again, and I wish it would just get warmer here!
Since my post was being stupid with HTML stuff, I ended up deleting what I wrote about last Saturday. Anyway, I went on a Shamanism hike. It was interesting. People deny that people still practice it and stuff. Afterwards, our resident director bought us lunch. After that my friends walked around the area and we bought socks for 500 won="~$.50. Yay for cheap socks! Then, I meant to spend the night at the church cuz the main Kangnam church was having a special Easter service at 6AM, but my friend called from Kwangju saying she's going to be in Seoul at 11:30 PM and wanted to see me. So I left church to go see her since she doesn't get to come to Seoul often. We met with our two other friends and had some drinks at a bar(?), but I didn't drink a lot since I had to go to church early.
[from this point on is the saved portion of my post lol-i wrote more about the above earlier but freakin ey HTML wtf!]
She was hungry so we left to go eat at a restaurant. Some restaurants here are opened 24 hrs or something. We were there from like 1 AM-3 AM hahaha. I tried some 순대볶음 & 오징어 순대 (soondaebokkeum [left]and ohjeenguh soondae[right]). It was really good. It was my first time eating something like that. I also had some cow's intestine. That was interesting. Anyway, after we were eating the guys wouldn't leave us girls until we figured out where we were going to stay until we had to leave for the special Easter service. We, honestly, were just going to stay up the whole night. We talked about this for a long time, and decided we had to go either to a PC room, Karaoke, video room, comic book room, sauna, or public bath. -_- We walked around in the cold rain for awhile, and decided to go to the pc room. It was my first time going to a PC room also. It was really nice. We felt bad for making the guys stay up at that time with us, but it was fun. My unni and I head out to the subway station at around 5:15 AM to get to the morning service. We got there a little bit late, but it didn't matter, because we both fell asleep during service. It was a good thing we were sitting in the back cuz nobody saw us sleeping lol. Then I met my pastor after service, and decided to go back to the Mapo church with him. Pastor and pastor's wife were hungry so we got breakfast at some restaurant. They got some fish soup thing that I've never had before. I don't really like fish, but it was alright. I have no idea what it was called though, and I was really exhausted. I fell asleep during the regular service also haha. During the rest of the day, I napped at church. And then we were back at the Kangnam church for the homecoming performance. The short term missionary from Africa's testimony was really touching, and I almost cried. I finally got to see one of my best friends, and I was REALLY happy to see her after 2 years!!!! I hope that I can see her more often later on, but we're both so busy =(.
And then I went to school and same old same old. I teach English now for free. It's for church haha. It's fun though listening to people's stories. Teaching English is not that bad, but my English is getting bad here so I need to go get some English books (not my textbooks---those make me fall asleep) so I won't forget English expressions haha. I think I might want to come back to Korea to teach English. Hmm....
Anyway, not much happened during the week. I got closer to one of my students last night, and I really enjoyed talking to her. I'm glad I get to see her every week. Today, I was supposed to go to 대전 Daejeon to go see my grandma(mom's side). My cousin (mom's side) was supposed to go down there also, and he was going to go with me, but he lost his phone last night -_-. So we're going next weekend. I called my other cousin (from my dad's side), and told him that my plans didn't work out. So he took me out to eat tonight. I ate A LOT! This is probably the first time that I've felt FULL. He bought me a lot of meat!!! And he was really surprised that I could eat a lot. Korean girls don't eat a lot, because they're scared of gaining weight. Well, I'm taking 3 PE classes, so it's all good. Then we got some coffee at Starbucks and cheesecake!! Yum yum. I ate mucho~~ I'm very satisfied. My Korean still sucks though. It is still hard to communicate with my cousins (those that don't know English very well), but it was good practice. I need to find people that don't know English. LOL I have to force myself to use Korean. -_- Anyway, that's pretty much it. I hope my cold goes away soon!!!

IYF

Well, I'm moving on from all the drama that has happened. I'm a lot better and happier now in Korea. I finally found the youth organization of my church at my school. It was a really thankful thing. I just saw them walking and I ran up to them to introduce myself. ^^ Yay IYF (International Youth Fellowship). But I'm really tired and sore now from my hip hop and swimming class. I also have a lot of catching up to do for my Social Changes in Modern Korea class. *cries* Hopefully, I'll do alright in my classes this semester.
Before I found IYF at my campus, I was feeling pretty depressed and lonely. I know that I came to Korea with my own reasons (even if they were stupid reasons), but God threw all of my reasons away. Before I came to Korea, my pastor's wife had fellowship with me saying that even though I came with my own reasons, I'm actually in Korea for God's reasons...whatever those may be. I guess I will find out. Despite that she said that, I just was like well I'm still going to go for my reasons. My reasons did not work out at all...the main reason. And then I felt pretty depressed and lonely. I felt like I had no one here in Korea, but all I could think about was church, IYF, and God. He really threw away my reason(s) so that I can look up to Him.
So at Bible study, the Good News broadcasting people were there and interviewed me. I was really nervous, and I forgot all the things that I wanted to say and I realized how bad my English has gotten. I can't speak in English or Korean. LOL I was speaking in both languages during the interview. I really hope that mine doesn't get broadcasted on the internet, because it's REALLY embarrassing. Either way, I'm going to be embarrassed, because we had to do a really cheesy ending altogether. I can't really explain it.
The only thing that kind of sucks right now is that it is 'White Day' today. It's the day that the guys do something for the girls. It's just another Valentine's Day in Korea. Boo. Well, whatever.
I'm supposed to go to Suwon tonight and go to a workshop. I have no idea how long it's going to be. I have a lot of reading to do this weekend.

First Week of School

Alright! I'm done with my first week of school, while everyone in the states is starting their spring break lol. Well, I like my Korean language class, but so far it's been easy so I'm going to look through the book to see if I should ask to move up. But I think I'm going to end up just staying in my level, because there are some phrases that I probably don't know and I don't want to skip them because i moved up a level. We'll see.
What else happened? I randomly signed up for all these clubs with my friends. I have no idea which ones I signed up for, but they will text me when the meetings are. ^^ Thursday night, my friends and I went to this 'JazzFeel' performance. We thought it was a jazz club meeting, but it turned out to be a performance. It was pretty entertaining. Everyone would yell, "[Name], FIGHTING!" It got really annoying, but that's how they do it here in Korea I guess. We left halfway through.
So Pizza Hut or any American restaurant in Korea is super expensive. Books are super cheap. O_O My $25 textbook would probably cost $100 in the U.S. And the copy books are super nice!!!!! The one I got for my pop culture class was only $10. In the states, it would probably cost about $100 also. Geez. I wish books were cheap in America like it is here in Korea. I wonder why it's so much cheaper. And so is food. Maybe because Korea doesn't have a public school system and have had to pay for school since elementary school, so they make books and food cheap. Just a theory.
Friday night, my friends and I were trying to find a samgyupsal (Korean bacon) restuarant, and I was standing outside of one restaurant looking at the pictures, and the owner comes and tells me to just come in...that her food is really good. There wasn't anyone in the restaurant yet, and it wasn't just plain samgyupsal that we wanted. It was spicy samgyupsal. But she sucked us in and we ate there. We got to draw on the walls which was fun! And her food was good. She gave us free soda and etc. The food and the restaurant didn't smell like she said hehe. I will go back there one day with more people. I also learned that soju is really icky and strong. We three girls shared one bottle, and we were feeling pretty good after that. It's so gross though. It's like straight alcohol...it tasted like what i would think rubbing alcohol would taste like. Yuck. Never again. Only flavor soju for me please. And not that much of that either. I'm not much of a drinker. But that seems to be Korea's favorite pastime. After that, we had some fruit yogurt at Red Mango. MMM so good! So many good restaurants in Korea~~
This morning, I had a Culture Shock workshop that we, CIEE members, had to go to. Then we ate lunch at the hospital, and it was relatively cheap there and pretty good. Well, I liked what I had. I was so hungry cuz I haven't been eating right lately since I was sick a couple of days ago. Then I ended up going to a language exchange meeting, but I hadn't signed up for that so I didn't have a buddy. I ended up leaving. I gave them my contact info, but I'm not too sad if they don't find me someone, because I'm sure I can find someone to help me with my Korean and I help them with their English at church...etc...Then I finally got a little bit of shopping done. I went to the FaceShop to get makeup remover and to Artbox to get a cute planner. The English doesn't make sense on it, but it's really cute! Oh and at the FaceShop they gave me free cotton pads. I was really glad that I didn't have to go buy some. ^^
Tonight I finally got to meet last year's short term missionary. It was really good to see him and talk about last year. He treated me to yogurt soju and chicken wings. It was good. And tomorrow I get to see two years ago short term missionary. She's going to take me to church. I feel like I received a lot of grace. After church tomorrow, I'm going to go see my aunt and uncle in Bundang. I'm glad that they're taking care of me so well. God really answered my prayers about my family. I was so worried that they wouldn't care about me, but they're always calling and asking if I need anything. I'm really thankful. I just hope I meet more Korean people as time goes by.
